California Moves Toward Electronic Textbooks

California senate approves bill that would give schools the ability to spend budget money on electronic textbooks.
According to the article published in the Los Angeles Times, the bill would amend the current law that requires the use of state funds to purchase adequate supplies of paper textbooks before buying any electronic materials. The article, Senate Approves Software as an Alternative to Textbooks, published in the Los Angeles Times, says that the bill would “allow districts to satisfy textbook requirements if they can provide each student with hardware and software that meet the same accessibility requirements that printed textbooks offer”.  The proposal is based on a pilot program that was conducted in Lemon Grove and Fullerton where companies such as Apple donated laptops for student use.
